Here's Where I am

Big Monster Toys.jpg

The reason I haven't posted in such a looooong time is because of my new gig as consultant on a documentary film! This is a fancy way of saying that I am spending way too much time planning trips and interviews around the schedules of a half-dozen people. How did I get here?

A few years ago, I met Ken Sons, local Sarasotan, professional comedian, documentary film maker, and all-around good guy. He loved my book and wanted to explore the possibility of using my contacts to make a movie about toy inventors. (That's him above next to the monster.)

Around the same time, my father's health began to fail. I had the foresight to record him telling some of his favorite stories. After he died, I edited his stories together in a collection of CDs for our family. I can’t begin to tell you what a gift it was have those stories after he was gone. Now I remember him laughing and sharing, instead of wasting away in a hospital bed.

Thinking about my dad got me thinking about all the great inventors I interviewed for Timeless Toys. Many of them were in their 70s, 80s, and 90s when I spoke to them 3 or 4 years ago! Knowing that they have great stories coupled with the cold, hard fact that they won’t be around forever, convinced me to find a way to do this thing.

I love creative people. They have an energy about them that is infectious. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be introducing some of them to you. You might not know them yet, but you are sure to know the playthings that they had a hand in creating.

If you'd like to be e-mailed whenever I post an update on the documentary, let me know by e-mail here: info@theplaymakers.com. I'm glad to be back with some great stories to tell.
