This book looks interesting. I’m sure I’ll be reading it soon!
Posted by: Cora at January 5, 2004 04:57 PMI researched the toy you are describing and found it. It was called the Shirley Temple Magnetic TV Theater. It was produced by a Pennsylvania firm called American Metal Specialties Co. Wow, an oldie but a goodie!
Posted by: Tim at July 23, 2004 06:16 AMI had a toy in the early seventies that was a robot (probably about 18 inches high).
It actually had a little elevator where a smaller size robot went inside and looke liked it controlled the bigger robot (smaller robot did not move at all).
Does anybody know what this was?
Posted by: elvis01 at August 26, 2004 01:51 AMThe most knowledgable guy I know regarding toy robots is Mark Bergin. He helped clear up some confusion for me when I wrote about Mr. Machine in The Playmakers. His website is awesome and I bet you could find your robot there or at least get its name so you can search for it on ebay. Try www.bergintoys.com.

I think your best bet is going to be ebay, but here are two other good vendors that I know.
Keystone Toy Trader (724) 583-8234 (no website)

Posted by: Tim at November 23, 2004 06:09 AMThe 1950s children’s television show, Windy Dink and You. Classic. In the ovens you had Little Lady Electric Range and Betty Crocker Junior Baking Kit(1950s), Easy-Bake by Kenner came out in 1964. A firm called American Metal Toys, Inc. made 3” metal soldiers. Of course the days of kids making their own metal soldiers by pouring molten lead into molds is long gone. Ebay is your best best to find some of these old toys, and O’Brien’s Collecting Toys would be a good reference for more information. Happy Hunting!

Posted by: Sonya at November 19, 2005 11:41 PMI had a doll around 1965 or so, If I remember correctly, her name was “Magic Wanda.” She came with this little magnetic wand, and when you waved the wand over her eyes, it would make them close. I have searched for her all over the Internet, to no avail! Does anyone recall this doll?
Peace,
Julz
Does anyone still have one of the Shirley Temple Magnetic TV Theaters?
Posted by: Caitlin at August 30, 2006 01:22 AMDoes anyone know what the picture was on the original 1966 box of Twister? Was it a “cartoon” drawing or a photograph of sixties “hipsters” playing the game…..
Posted by: Colleen at April 10, 2007 10:19 PMIt was a cartoon drawing of adults playing. Guys in jackets and ties! Here it is: http://www.theplaymakers.com/welcome/archives/Twister.html
Posted by: Tim at April 13, 2007 05:55 AMI’m also looking for a Shirley Temple Magnetic TV Theater. Does anyone have one I could buy outright? I’m tired of losing at Ebay! Purely sentimental. Had one as a child. Parent must have tossed it.
